Summer is here in the southern Rockies. The reason I know is that the mosquitoes are out. Luckily, that means we’ve had rain, always welcome in the high dry alpine valley.
Like many things in life, there are irritations that come with blessed gifts. We want rain, we don’t want mosquitoes. But we don’t get one without the other.
Staying sane means focusing on the butterflies, blooming cactus and wild iris— not the mosquitoes.
Things are heating up for a busy summer on the art circuit.
Colorado Visions: Three Women Artists
This weekend I’m installing a new exhibit in Denver’s Washington Park - formerly my summer “office” when I lived on Capitol Hill. It was my daily bike ride, and I’d often bring my morning tea and diary so I could take care of business while enjoying the beautiful greenery of this park.
The historic bath-house on the lake has been converted into the headquarters of the Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado, the hosts of our new exhibit. This opportunity came from the Womens Caucus of Art, Colorado Chapter, so it is an all-woman show.
I’m doing something different for this exhibit and I’m super excited about it: I’ve created fourteen mixed media works on paper for this show, all nature themed and brightly colored. Preview the collection here.
Join us for the opening reception on Friday July 11, from 5-8pm.

Fourth of July Plein Air Event at the Broadmoor
On Saturday and Sunday July 5-6, Steve and I will be painting in the gardens of the Broadmoor. We’ll be among two dozen other artists for this annual event. If you are in the Colorado Springs area, please come enjoy the celebration with us.
I recently participated in another plein air event in Littleton - and I LOVE this style of painting. You get to be outdoors in the sunshine, and the work has to be done fast and furious or else you lose the light! There’s something that resonates about this process…stay tuned for updates and pics from that event.
Long way of saying that I’d be glad to see you at the Broadmoor next weekend, and share my process with you.
BLOOM: The Creative Incubator
Starting today, paid subscribers will have access to a new 28 day program called Bloom. Each day will feature a short guided practice and creative prompt, no longer than 30 minutes per day (and usually under 10 minutes.) Get a preview here.
This program is available to paid subscribers of my Substack platform - currently $7/ month for 2 more days. This rate will double on July 1, so I recommend joining now rather than waiting. Ready to Bloom?
